During this week, the nation celebrates Interfaith work across all the regions. The NERFN is supporting a number of events to mark this week:
On Thursday 12 November in the run up to Interfaith Week 2009, Faiths Together are organising a programme of visits to local Places of Worship to enable South Tyneside residents of different faiths and beliefs to develop a wider understanding of faith communities other than their own through personal encounters. The first of these visits would be to the Al Azhar Mosque in South Shields at 9.30 – 10.30, then again at 6.30 to 7.30. This event will be open in that people can request a place, but it is not a ‘drop-in’ event. To book a place, contact info@nerfn.org
On Monday 15th November, a women’s interfaith event will be taking place in Middlesbrough, which includes music and entertainment, and takes place in Middlesbrough Teaching and Learning Centre, at 6 pm. The event is only open to women. The Middlesbrough Council of Faiths will be organising the event, and further information is available from info@nerfn.org
Tuesday 17th November, People to People celebrate their 25th anniversary in Newcastle library at 10.30 am with workshops and guest speaker Prof. P Weller. For further details contact us at info@nerfn.org
Gateshead Interfaith Forum and Gateshead Council are hosting an event which will celebrate faith diversity in the borough. This will take place on Tuesday 17th, 1.30 pm - 3 pm at Gateshead Civic Centre. This involves working with young people from the Interfaith Network on a British Identify film project. The aim is to do some filming around the concept of faith and cultural identity during interfaith week. This will be a young person led initiative but can involve people of all ages and faiths being interviewed for the film project itself.
Gateshead Interfaith Forum are also working with Gateshead Council's Diversity Team, and a local Bishop to put on an event on Tuesday 17th November. The event is based around a film evening which highlights the faith diversity in the Borough through screening films from the 1970's through to the present day; featuring local people, and with a faith component. This event will take place at Gateshead Civic Centre, times to be confirmed.
Wednesday 18th November, County Durham Faiths Network are organising a conference / event to promote Interfaith work in schools. This will take place in County Hall, Durham from 12 noon to 3 pm.
Also on 18th November, there will be a stakeholder event at the Stockton Education Centre, from 10 to 4 pm - showcasing the work being done with faith groups in local authorities across the region. Invitations are available upon request from info@nerfn.org
On Wednesday 18th November, Stockton Riverside College is holding a Respect Day which is open to staff and students at the college.

On Thursday 19th November, 12 – 2.30 pm, the NERFN plans to host a regional launch event for the new North East Faiths Survey which is web-based - which will take place in various locations in the Gateshead Civic Centre. Part of this event will include displays and activities from our membership, whilst the council chambers will be used to present the NERFN Regional Faiths Survey. This part of the event will be invitation only.
Downstairs in the foyer and cafeteria there will be music and dancing provided by various faith and culture groups, plus displays and information stands dedicated to various faith groups in the region.
Also on Thursday 19th November, the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Newcastle upon Tyne warmly invite you to a Bahá’í devotional - in celebration of Interfaith Week - at 7 pm (for 7.15 pm). The event will comprise readings from Scriptures together with some music, followed by refreshments.
